On the outskirts of Palmerston North is a vibrant little country church at Akers Road, Linton. As part of the All Saints’ Parish, it has strong links to the city church, yet has a unique country ethos and environment. Although it has a history and setting of a traditional small rural country church, it is unique in the way it is run and the forms of service it offers.
On the first and third Sundays in the month are meetings in the hall around food! The first Sunday commences with a breakfast where pancakes and bacon and egg are served up with coffee or tea. The third Sunday of the month has a morning tea, which can include scones and muffins and other delectables. This is followed by opening up the scriptures in an informal setting and hearing from gifted international speakers, such as Tim Keller. It is a small group of perhaps 10 or 12 people very much like a home group, where people can choose to sit and listen and / or to discuss and debate the issues of the day.
On the second and fourth Sundays, there are services in the church, which are attended and administrated by a core of faithful parishioners. There is no regular priest at St Columba’s, but each person is active in the church and contributes in some way or another to the fellowship. Music and worship is beautifully led by a small team, followed by a time of sharing, intercession and communion. Speakers are drawn from a mix of lay people from All Saints, St Columba’s and other churches, so there is always a mix of great teaching and contributors.
You are always welcome to join us at St Columba’s. All services commence at 9.30am.
