Volunteer Lifestyle Opportunity with subsidized board $80p/w in Mt Roskill for FEMALE OR COUPLE

Jump on board with The Salvation Army as a Tuakana/Positive Flatmate and make a difference in the lives of our young people!

Our Independent Living Programme is semi-supported accommodation designed to walk alongside our youth aged 16-18 transitioning out of foster care. Currently our 3bedroom female home requires a single female or couple to take on the role of Tuakana.

The home can house two young women journeying to independence in what is intended to be a boarding/flatting (not a residential care) experience.

The semi-supported part is where you could come in, (with guidance from two youth workers and a programme lead). As a Tuakana you would receive a subsidised boarding package of $80p/w which includes food (breakfast/lunch/dinner), internet, power & water with potential for personal/professional development.
You are considered to be a volunteer rather than staff in The Salvation Army, however in return for this fair board package we will ask you to:

-role model positive life-skills
-invest some of your weekly time and energy into being present at the home,
-allow our young women to be energised and learn from your skills, enthusiasm, cultural capital, worldly experience
-be engaged in positive social experiences
-play a role in the development of house routines and culture
-monitor safety within the home and notify staff where necessary.

We will be respectfully asking you to incorporate our young people into your lifestyle where possible. This may look different for each Tuakana.

You are NOT a ‘carer’ but it is essential that you do have the capacity and desire to care about our young people. We know that having positive, appropriate relationships with pro-social adults is a vital ingredient for positive youth development.

Our inclusive programme will also target the provision of a strong cultural experience to reflect the diversity of young people who will be participating.

Move-in target is during the month of March.

No pets.

This is no ordinary flatting/boarding experience. Take a chance on the extraordinary and make a difference!
